Turkey's most iconic bread — a golden ring covered in sesame seeds, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. Baked fresh every day.
Istanbul's beloved bread
What is Simit?
The unmistakable sesame bread ring that defines Istanbul's streets — now baked fresh at Fremont
The Sound of Istanbul Mornings
If you've ever walked the streets of Istanbul at dawn, you've heard it: vendors calling out "Simit! Simit!" while carrying towering stacks of golden bread rings on their heads or in glass-fronted carts. Simit is to Istanbul what the baguette is to Paris — the city's daily bread, its edible identity, its most democratic food.
The recipe hasn't changed in centuries. Dough is shaped into rings, dipped in grape molasses (pekmez), coated generously in sesame seeds, and baked until golden. The result is crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, with a nutty depth from the toasted sesame. Turks eat more than 2.5 million simit per day.

From Our Bakery to Your Table
At Istanbul Mediterranean 2, our simit is baked fresh every morning in our Fremont Street bakery. At just $3.95, it's a taste of Istanbul that fits in your hand. Enjoy it on its own, with a cup of Turkish tea, or as part of our full Turkish breakfast where it comes alongside fresh cheeses, olives, honey, and cream.
Simit is also the perfect companion to our breakfast plates — tear off pieces and dip them into honey, spread them with butter, or use them to scoop up menemen. It's the bread that makes Turkish breakfast complete.
